TUESDAY, AUGUST 14, 1945 CURB REPORTER Weather Monday: High 84, low 65 .... As this is written at 10:25 a. m., no official news has come that the war is over. Crowds in New York and other large cities have gone wild with joy over the Swiss report that the Japs have surrendered on Allies’ terms. The Town of Tryon will sound the fire siren for the local celebration. Two hours later the public is invited to assemble at the Tryon theatre if the siren goes off before 5 p. m. After that time the Baptist church will be the meeting place. . In the mean time we all can pray and make plans to welcome our boys back home. The. kind of welcome and Hie way of life we make for them ■I the future is the kind of cele Pration that counts in the long run. They will need our fellow ship and the enjoyment of peace among ourselves. They will want to see us in a spirit of cooperation, striving toward wortny goals all the time. There is so much to be done. They will want to have a part in the accomplishment and in the fruits of our combined labors. . . For the moment our minds are unsettled waiting for the official news of the war’s end, and for the official program the government has outlined for the expansion of business with less re strictions. I can’t figure out what Ned Raynolds’ Ad means in to _Continued, on Back Page TRYON CLOSES FOR V-J DAY All Tryon business houses will be closed for V-J Day, accord ing to a brief survey made Mon day afternoon by the Merchants Association. If the announcement conies be fore 2 p. m.,*st'6res will close as soon as possible and stay closed that afternoon and also all of the following day. If the announcement comes before 2 p. m. stores' will close at once and re-open at 1 p. m. the following day. An appropriate service in cele bration of the day has been ar ranged with the cooperation of the ministers, the Home Friendly Club, and Mayor F. P. Bacon. This service will be held at Tryon Theatre IF the siren announces it before 5 p. m. IF the siren goes off after 5 p. m. the service will be held at the First Baptist church. MISS SEVIER RESIGNS Miss Anne Sevier, of the T'ryon High School faculty, has resigned to accept a position as instructor in Freshman and Sophomore Eng lish at Winthrop College. During her stay in Tryon Miss Sevier has identified herself with a number of civic affairs of the community. In addition to her school work, she was sponsor of the Beta club, faculty adviser of the High School news and other school activities. During the past summer she taught Bible at Con verse college. She has a master’s degree from the University of South Carolina.
