Town folk found themselves
without city water for awhile last
week. A driver with a truck
carrying a load of peaches—a big
48 truck—crashed into a fire hy
drant in front of Roy Johnson’s
house, dislocating the hydrant and
releasing a flood of water. The
driver had fallen asleep and was
awakened by the crash and the
sound of rushing water. None of
the peaches was saved, and it took
several hours to repair the hy
drant. The truck belonged to
James Bell of Kentucky.
The bridge over the railroad
was blocked off for repairs last
week and reminded folks of the
old days when we crossed the
track on the level just below the
depot.
