GARDEN PARTY The Flat Rock home of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Robertson will be open to visitors on Wednesday, August 22nd, at 4:30, when re freshments will be served by the women of the Church of St. John in-the-Wilderness. “Hopewood” is one of the beauty spots of this part of the country and is easily reached on the Asheville-Green ville hig-hway, just south of “Wood fields.” A silver offering for the winter relief work of St. John’s will be taken. MRS. MAMIE F. TURNER Mrs. Mamie F. Turner, 49, wife of Haskell Turner of Landrum Route 2, died at 2 p. m., Friday at her home after an illness of two weeks. She was a daughter of the late Asbury and Janie Burrell Pittman. Survivors include her husband; four daughters, Mrs. Annie Pitt man of Taylors, Mrs. Beatrice Plumley and Misses Bonnie and Frances Turner of Landrum Route 2; a son, Vernon Turner, of Land rum Route 2; four brothers, G. W. Mathis, Thurmond and Ernest Turner, all of Landrum Route 2; four sisters, Mrs. Cora Howard of Greer, Mrs. Mildred Pruitt of Tay lors and Mrs. Lilda Harrison and Mrs. Ollie Hughes, both of Land rum Route 2; and one grandchild. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p. m., Sunday at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist church with the Rev. Wingard Odom, the Rev. Wal ter Harrison and the Rev. Paul Tankersley. Burial in the church cemetery. The Home Friendly Club intends to keep in touch with our service men and women in the coming months as in the past, provided that the families send in the new addresses. We cannot afford to mail letters on such a scale as present conditions produce unless we have whatever information you have as to the men’s and women’s whereabouts. Also please include any personal items that we may put them in our news letter; and tell us of discharged men.—The Home Friendly club.—Contributed. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Reynolds and children left Friday for a few days’ visit with Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Reynolds and family at Orange, Va. Mrs. J. R. Marley, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Marley and son, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall McDaniel and daughter, have returned to Siler City, N. C., after a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Reynolds. Norman Cordon, Metropolitan bass-baritone, will sing at Hender sonville high school at 8:30 Tues day under the auspices of the Ro tary club. No seats reserved.
