Martin served a buffet luncheon in their apartment at 900 North Michigan Avenue, Chicago, for the following guests, all of whom are either property owners near Tryon or have been frequent visitors at that delightful place: Mr. and Mrs. Robert Golding, Mr. and Mrs. John J. Munns, Mr. William C. Freeman, Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Antrim, Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Nance, and the Martin’s son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Martin, both of whom will soon be guests of the Martins at El Cerrito, near Tryon. Barnett Funeral Thursday Fune F^j^nc meral services for Mrs. Emma ce Barnett, 74, wife of Mel Jarnett, who died Wednesday about noon at her home on Land rum Route 1 after two weeks ill jiess, were, held Thursday after noon at 3:30 at Fairview Baptist church near Landrum, conducted by the Rev. T. E. Uteid, the Rev. S. J. Jolley, the Rev. C. E. Pruitt, the Rev. A. T. Howard, the Rev. Broadus Ballew and the Rev. W. Y. Henderson. Interment in the church cemetery. Mrs. Barnett was born and reared in the Landrum community, the daughter of the late Young and Susan Dill O’Shields. She was a member of the Fairview Baptist church near Landrum. Surviving are her husband, three .. Continued ov Back Page_ Miss Betty Crapo Engaged To Major Robert B. Klemann Mr. and Mrs. William W. Crapo of Detroit, Michigan, and Tryon, N. C., are announcing the engage ment of their daughter, Betty, to Major Robert B. Klemann, U. S. A. A. F., of Washington, D. C., Saturday evening at a cocktail party at home and at dinner at the Detroit Country Club. Miss Crapo attended Liggett School and Vassar College and is a member of Sigma Gamma. She made her debut at a tea last December. Major Klemann is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter H. Klemann of Antigo, Wisconsin. The major is, and has been for the last eighteen months, Secretary of the Joint Logistics Planning committee of Combined Chiefs of Staff in Washington. He served in the China-Burma-India theatre of war for two years, as a bomber pilot, and as Executive Officer of the Chinese-American Operational Training Unit at Karachi, India. The wedding will take place in Detroit in early December. MRS. N. W. CRUSE Mrs. N. W. Cruse of Tryon died Thursday evening, September 27, in the Brattleboro Memorial Hos pital, Brattleboro, Vt. Mrs. Cruse, the sister of . Mrs. William E. Knight, occupied the Guest House at Waelhyll. Besides her sister in Tryon, Mrs. Ci'use is also survived by a son, Donald Cruse, of Englewood, N. J.. and a brother, Marshall W. White of Tarrytown, N. Y.
