puts away a lot in the smoke

ago a fellow named Solomon, is
reported to have said: “Go to the
ant, thou sluggard; consider her
ways, and be wise.” . . . Tempera

building torn down. Where the wall
boards are torn off one can see
the old window frames.
R. F. Whitesides, native of
Rutherford, now of Tryon, gard
ener and hedge trimmer for a
number of people, spends his
leisure time painting in oils out
door scenes. He has sold a number
of pictures. His latest is one of
Maple street picturing the maples
that line the sidewalk, a side view
of Senator James Fisher’s house,
and Mrs. Dora Foster’s cow graz
ing in the Fisher garden .

Cpl. Herman S. Skipper has ar
rived in California after 22
months overseas in the South
Pacific. He is a son of Mrs. L. B.
Skipper of Tryon.
Mis§ Dora A. Kershner, the new
superintendent of St. Luke’s hos
pital, has arrived to take up her
duties. She is a native of Pennsyl
vania, but comes to Tryon from
Coral Gables, Fla.
