Tempera ture at Miami dropped to 51.8 yesterday, the coldest this time of year in 35 years .... It is a lot of fun watching the old school building torn down. Whitesides, native of Rutherford, now of Tryon, gard ener and hedge trimmer for a number of people, spends his leisure time painting in oils out door scenes. He has sold a number of pictures. His latest is one of Maple street picturing the maples that line the sidewalk, a side view of Senator James Fisher’s house, and Mrs. Dora Foster’s cow graz ing in the Fisher garden . 4,—..— Cpl. Herman S. Skipper has ar rived in California after 22 months overseas in the South Pacific. He is a son of Mrs. L. B. Skipper of Tryon. Mis§ Dora A. Kershner, the new superintendent of St. Luke’s hos pital, has arrived to take up her duties. She is a native of Pennsyl vania, but comes to Tryon from Coral Gables, Fla.
