Recruiting Officers Here Sgt. Henry C. Smith and Sgt. Alex Baron of Asheville Army Recruiting) Station are in Tryon this week through Friday to re cruit men 17 to 35 for the Army. They are located in Tryon upstairs in the Hester building in front of the Selective Service offices. Any man wanting information about the Army will have opportunity to see these officers 8 a. m. to 5 p. m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Lieut. Henry Conkle, Jr., USNR, has arrived in Tryon to join his family at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Melbourne Smith. Lieut. Conkle served in the Pacific on the Philippines. He is here on terminal leave. He expects to be discharged in January. His home town is Wayne, Pa. Prior to the war he was an instructor in a school, but has not decided his future course.
