Fred Smith, Spartanburg Herald Conservation editor had a four column story Sunday about the annual meeting of the Polk County Wildlife chapter held at Harmon Field apd the School au ditorium. Buys Home in Tryon Mrs. June C. Eaton of Alexan dria, Va. has bought through Chas. J. Lynch, the Law Stable Apart ment building on Harmon Field road where she will make her per manent home. Mrs. Eaton’s two daughters, Elaine, six and a half years old, and Lyndle, three and a half, are in school in Delaware, and will not come to Tryon until the end of the present school term in June. Mrs. Eaton will spend Christmas with them there. Duke Industrialist Speaker At Kiwanis Tuesday John W. Fox, industrial en gineer of the Duke Power Co., of Charlotte, will be the guest speaker at the Tryon Kiwanis club on Tuesday at 1 p. m. at Oak Hall hotel K. A. Bowen will be in charge of the program. The Duke Power Co. has just announc ed its plans to spend over four million dollars to enlarge its big power plant at Cliffside in order to provide adequate current for the many industries expected in the Piedmont area. Mr. Fox is an advocate of usingi your own natural resources and developing them on a small scale instead of trying to bring a big mill in from the outside. Governor Cherry re cently appointed Senator Carroll P. Rogers of Tryon to serve on a committee designated to pro mote the natural resources of the I rural areas in North Carolina in I order to have a more balanced state.
