C., WEDNESDAY, DEC. 12, 1945 Weather Tuesday: High 40, low 23 . . . Tryon Graded School has sold over $100 worth of Christmas Seals for the Tuberculosis Fund. The grades leading in sales were those of Misses Wages and Gamble, the Sixth, who sold $18.70; Miss Thelma Mills’ Eighth grade sold $12.24; Mrs. Kathryn Lord’s Fourth grade, $11.40; Mrs. M. B. Caldwell’s Third grade, $10.60. Other grades ranged from $1.50 to $9.51.The brakes on Mrs. Will Nottingham’s car slip ped early this morning and the car jumped the sidewalk and hit 1 -A*5tedge Hardware store front, and ■Juried the display window back several inches without breaking the glass .... There was never a better time for Columbus to ex pand with a good housing pro gram. New farmers are coming to Polk County and will want to live near the county seat; the Columbus Mills now installing machinery expects to employ 100 people within the next year; Tryon Processing Company is planning additions to its greatly improved plant .... Tryon Recreation Committee was comp’eted Monday night by Tryon Town Council with the appointment of Rev. Frank _ Continued on Hack Page .— New Assistant County Agent Succeeds Sam Dobson Capt. Paul Culberson, who is now on terminal leave with the U. S. Army Artillery, has been elected by the Polk County Com missioners to be the assistant county accent to succeed Lieut. Sam Dobson, who instead of re turning to this county after his discharge from the Navy, has chosen a job with State College in Raleigh where he will be connected with the State Extension Service and at the same time do work to ward his master’s degree. Mr. Dobson is a graduate of N. C. State and was very popular with the young people of Polk County in his 4-H Club work. He was vice-president of the Tryon Kiwanis Club when called into service with the Navy. Capt. Culberson is from Ala mance County. He is a graduate of Berry School at Rome, Ga.. and has a B. S. decree from State College at Raleigh. He was in the Army four years, two of them overseas in Europe. He will be gin his work in Polk County the first of January. He is a bachelor. KIWANIS LADIES’ NIGHT AT OAK HALL HOTEL Tbe Trvon Kiwanis Club held its “Ladies’ Night” urogram Tu°s dav at Oak Hall hotel. Wm. M. Spivey had charge of the program and conducted an information ouiz.
