Sunday high 69; low 28. . . .Try on Boy Scouts took over the town for one hour Friday afternoon through courtesy of the town officials who gave their time and interest to help educate the young Scouts in the responsibilities of running any government. “Mayor” Joel Derby took charge and the first person brought to him for trial was the temporarily deposed Mayor F. P. Bacon, who was charged with irregular parking. The Scout Mayor found him guil 4Kvmd fined him $100. Mr. Bacon Vhng served for years on the Town Council, twice in the State Senate and twice as mayor of Try on, respected the spirit of the court and paid his fine which becomes his annual contribution to the Boy Scout Financial Campaign. The Scouts had a wonderful time being initiated into the operations of the town government. Town Manager Claude Smith was caught giving out erroneous information and he was fined $5 . . . . The 3rd and 4th grade singers of Stearns school will pnt on the program for J. M. Baker at Kiwanis Tues day at 1 p. m. at Oak Hall hotel. _Continued on Back Page Tryon Postmaster Exams To Be Held Here Soon Civil Service Secretary George D. Cooksey has received notice that applications for the postmastership at Tryon may be made anytime be tween now and March 25. Blanks and information concerning the job can be obtained from Mr. Cooksey. The office now has a base pay of $3,300 and is being filled tem porarily by Acting Postmaster G. Isham Henderson, who succeeded R. 0. Andrews when he resigned. BASKETBALL NEWS Adams-Millis and Columbus All Stars (men) will play Wednesday night at 7:30 at Tryon gymnasium. Tryon All-Stars defeated Adams Millis (men) Saturday night at Saluda 31-22. Saluda girls de feated Adams-Millis girls 18-12. William Egerton and Nolan Pace, referees. Friday night at Tryon gym Try on High School won a double-head er from Sunny View. The girls’ j;ame was close. Tryon was ahead at the first quarter .9-4; tied at the half 14-14; third quarter it was 21-21; and Tryon just barely won 27-26. Tryon girls, Ruth Johnson, (11); Ruth Pace (10); Doris Ed ney (1); Alice Emery (3); guards, Virginia Wilson, Virginia Donald, Eleanor Henry, Emma Rose Brant ley, Peggy Lewellyn.
