Gibbs, one of the outstanding farm leaders of Polk County sends in his $20 member ship in the Piedmont Interstate Fair. All these charter members will go down in the history of this section as pioneers in the agri cultural development of Polk Coun ty. A district fair offers wider opportunities, more competition and !aspiration to a larger number of f ung people. Everyone who is a Producer of anything will appre ciate the opportunity to exhibit his product at a first class fair. Lifetime memberships may be se cured through Chas. J. Lynch by sending check for $20 . . . This week is National Newspaper Week. And newspapers all over the country are being urged to observe it by reminding the public of the importance of freedom of the press in general and of the service of a newspaper to its community and readers. Some people often foreet what a free newspaper means. Last Friday The Bulletin published a nage advertisement for the New Republican Club. Some people thought that was strange because -Continued on Back Page_ Choral Practice Tonight The Choral Club will practice tonight at 8 o’clock at the Tryon First Baptist Church. KIWANIS TUESDAY The Tryon Kiwanis Club will meet Tuesday at 1 p. m., at Oak Hall. Program in charge of Dr. John Z. Preston. Speaker will be Wilbur Stephens, athletic director Tryon school. WSCS MEETS TUESDAY The W. S. C. S. of the Tryon Methodist Church will meet Tues day at 3:30 with Mrs. Milner Waters. Polk County Legion Tuesday Polk County Memorial Post American Legion and Auxiliary will meet Tuesday night at 8 o’clock in Columbus at the Court House. A talk by Donald Carr on the selection and training of war dogs, will be a feature. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ! The Bulletin and numerous oth er friends extend best wishes today , to Miss Louisa Pitkin in honor of her 96th birthday. Miss Pitkin is one of Tryon’s most beloved citi zens who is always keenly inter ested in everything for the welfare of community and county. She has given money, time, and much need ed enthusiasm to various worthy causes. Last year at 95 she was calling for yarn with which to knit for the Red Cross. She is an ex ample for all who desire to enjoy life to its fullest.
