There seems to be gen eral rejoicing that the Try on Garden Club is being revived today with a party at Oak Hall sun parlor beginning at 4 o’clock. . . . Mrs. M. O. Kelley, affectionately known by hundreds of friends as “Granny” Kelley, celebrated her 90th birthday Monday . . . The World Community Day sponsored by the United Council of Church Women will hold a luncheon meet ing Thursday at 1 p. m. at Oak jiall hotel. Rev. William T. Miners, Jr., speaker. ... Erskine ’Bpmorial Fellowship will meet on Wednesday night at the home of Miss Mae Irene Flentye . . . One fellow says we have to nave mgn er wages to pay for the increases in prices that were caused by higher wages. A vicious circle for everybody except the fellow who learned to do without things he didn’t need and who has a pig, a cow, a hen, and a garden. . . . Superintendent L. K. The United Nations Continued on Back Page_ JACK EARGLE AWARDED BRONZE PALM The first Boy Scout Court of Honor for the fall and winter sea son, which was held in the High School auditorium Monday night, opened with prayer by Rev. Frank Murtfeldt, followed with the re peating of the Scout Oath, led by R. M. Schiele, Scout Executive. After a few announcements per taining to the Scout membership round-up, the following Scouts were advanced in rank: First Class rank: Jimmy Pace, Fred Pearson, troop 1, Saluda. Merit Badges awarded were: Athletics—Ligon Flfcfnn, troop 1, Tryon. Cooking—Robert Lewellyn, troop 1. Tryon. Personal Health—Joe Raymond Stephenson, troop 1, Saluda. Public Health—Joe Raymond Stephenson, troop 1, Saluda. Reptile Study—J a c k Eargle, troop 1, Tryon, Scholarship — Carroll Brady, troop 1, Tryon. Star Scout Rank—Joe Raymond Stephesnson, troop 1, Saluda; Rob ert Lewellyn, troop 1, Tryon. Life Scout Rank—Ligon Flynn, jtroop 1, Tryon. Bronze Eagle Scout Palm: Jack Eargle. troop 1, Tryon. Serving on the Court were L. K. Singley, G. I. Henderson, Har rison Bridegamn, Seth M,. Vining. R. L. Dick, G. H, Bridgeman, J. W. Taylor, Eagle Scout Robert L. Dick, 3rd, and Scout Executive R. M. Schiele. Mrs. Schiele served as secretary. After awards won during the summer were presented the meet ing adjourned with the repeating i* of the Scout bendiction.
