meetings of the Lanier Club was
held Thursday afternoon when
Reuben Robertson, executive head
of the Champion Paper and Fibre
Co. spoke on current problems in
industry. The library was filled
to standing room only. A large
number of business men were pres
ent and joined the ladies in ask
ing questions about current prob
lems in the nation. Mir. Robertson
was' called to Washington by
ydent Roosevelt to serve on a
Jnal board representing indus
t?Jr*and labor to help prepare the
nation for increased production
necessary to win the war. He told
of the efforts in Washington to
build a working force that would
put patriotism above self. This
produced the no strike pledge dur
ing the way. In spite of mistakes
made he was high in praise of the
business men who were amateurs at
making war, and was surprised
that more mistakes were not made.
He gave an interesting character
sketch of John L. Lewis, who he
classified as, the most able labor
leader, a skillful strategist who
won his battles against the govern
ment because he planned ahead
