Labor Com missioner F. H Shuford of Raleigh spoke in Charlotte today to the Carolina-Virginia Purchasing Ag ents convention and said that strikes had not caused as much shortages as accidents on and off job. A lot of production is held up for lack of steel which is in demand by so many other indus tries that are using steel more Sever. The textile industry few exceptions in North ilina, has been producing more than ever, but it is still hard to get sheets and shirts. There are buyers strikes, m a n u f acturers strikes by those wanting higher prices for their products. So it is natural for seamen and others to strike to get higher prices for the only thing they have to sell— their labor. He said management and labor need each other. No body wants to strike because every body loses. Workers lose pay, union lose dues and have to pay out benefits, managements and stockholders lose profits, and every body suffers.
