several reasons. A few weeks ago
when there was time to plan for the
lights the coal strike was on and
the government was asking for
dimouts and only a minimum of
lighting anywhere. It would have
been unpatriotic to light up the
town. The spirit of Tryon is al
ways in harmony with the best
interests of the people as a whole.

PROBE OF ELECTION
IRREGULARITIES WILL
REQUIRE TIME
Washington, Dec. 18.—Charges
of irregularities, in the use of ab
sentee ballots in the Polk County
sheriff’s election are being thor
oughly investigated by the Depart
ment of Justice, but there will be
considerable delay before any ac
tion is taken on them.
Assistant Attorney General T.
Lamar Caudle, chief of the crim
inal division, said this afternoon
the Department was not in a posi
tion to disclose details of the in
vestigation of charges brought by
Claude Y. Nanney, Jr., of Union
Mills, Republican defeated by vet
eran Rep. A. L. Bulwinkle of Gas
tonia.
Nanney’s charges or irregulari
ties in the use of absentee ballots
covered 50 typewritten pages,
Caudle pointed out, adding “this
means there is; a great deal to
be done; it will be some time be
fore the probe is done.”.—The
Spartanburg Herald.
SHOOTS 34 POINTS
Tryon Town Team defeated
Sunny View Wednesday night at
Tryon gymnasium and also won a
close scrimmage game against the
Tryon High School. Frank Mc
Farland was high scorer for the
Town Team. He made a total
of 34 points—18 against Sunny
View and 16 against Tryon High.
