Weather Monday: High 44, low
16. That is cold weather for
Tryon, but that 44 degrees in the
sunshine was wonderful. It never
rose above 31 in Asheville Mon
day—a difference of 13 degrees.
It never got above 31 for three
days in Asheville, whereas in
Tryon we had a 58 for Friday, 50
for Saturday and one cold 34 for
Sunday. Warmer weather is on
the way .... New cold wave
hits England; millions are out of

INFANTILE PARALYSIS
FUND IS ENLARGED
Polk County has gone $400 over
its quota, according to reports
that have come in within the past
few days to the treasurer, -Mrs.
F. W. Sprague. There were some
large gifts from individuals but the
bulk of the money represented
pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters
and dollar bills from people all
over the county incuding school
children. The total to date is
$1,841.84, and the donations came
from the Green Creek Junior 4-H
Club; -Seams school at Columbus;
Mill Spring Senior 4-H • Club;
Mill Spring Junior 4-H Club;
Saluda school; Tryon school; the
collection box at Lynn Post
Office; Rev. M. B. Brown and Mrs.
Della Davenport Jackson of Union
Grove colored school; Mrs. Delores
Bingamon, Mrs. Ellison Andrews,
W. M. Watson, Mrs. Louis Fuld
ner, Mrs. John Vollmer. .The
County-Wide campaign was direct
ed by Miss Gladys Hamrick co
chairman and Paul Culberson
through the 4-H Clubs, Home
Demonstration Clubs and schools.
ADAMS-MILLIS SPLITS
BASKETBALL GAMES
Adams-Millis boys and igfirls
played Hendersonville All-Star
boys and girls Monday night at
Plat Rock. Adams-Millis girls
won 22-21; and the boys lost
49 to 63.
TOWN NEWS
At the meeting of the Town
Commissioners Monday night the
zoning ordinance as amended was
approved. The police department
wag ordered reduced to three men.
