Phone No. 4 “TOWN MEETING” If the Town Meeting is to have any real vitality, serve any pur pose other than that of providing semi-intellectual diversion for “foreigners” with a good deal of expendable time on their hands, it must have the active support of considerable segments of the entire community. It must con sider subjects of real concern to people of varying interests, and its active direction must come from these same people. Unless they want it and are willing to do a good deal about it, it will hardly survive the experimental four sessions that have been pro vided for February and March. The sponsors of his experiment al Town Meeting have underaken simply to get the project under way with ithe hope that enough people of desirous interests in the general community will feel that it offers such ah opportunity for com munity service that they will take hold of it and carry if on effecti vely. This means much more than interested attendance, im portant as this is. It means help ing to perfect a functioning or ganization, offering significant topics, being willing to prepare and serve as leader of discussion, and accepting the various respon- / sibilities and doing the various chores that are involved in a successful co-operative undertak ing. The initial Town Meeting is set for Thursday evening, Feb. 13th, at 8, in the Lanier Club rooms.— 'i There will be an exnibit of paintings and photographs spon sored by the Lamer Club on Feb. 18th at the Episcopal Church Parish House.
