The j home cooked and canned vegetables served by the Woman’s Auxiliary along with other food served with the 4-H Club steak was delicious. Commander Idham Henderson presided; Dr. A. V. Dye made an inspiring talk on the importance of cooperation for individuals as well as nations and smaller or ^J^^tions. The Legion will sur vHPin proportion to the support the members give it and make the organization serve the needs of the individual members. New officers of the Legion to be gin July 1 are Thurston Arledge, commander; Troy Durham, vice commander; C. W. Mason, his torian; T. S. Poole, adjutant; Broadus Flynn, chaplain. Two others will be announced later . . . . In the Duke Power Co. window is displayed a mounted large mouth black bass that was caught on April 22 in the spillway of the Duke Power Co. dam at Lake Adger. It was caught by the com pany’s operator, Broadus McKee, who lives at Turner Shoals and „_Continued on Back Page J. N. JACKSON John Nelson Jackson, Sr., 89, passed away at 2 o’clock this morn ing after an illness of several years. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the McFarland Funeral Home. The body will be sent to Chatta nooga for burial. The family requests friends to please omit flowers. The deceased is survived by his widow, the former Miss Mar tha Ellen Hunter of Chattanooga, and the following children: Mrs. E. M. Walker of New York City, Mrs. David Dorroh of Black Moun tain N. C., Mrs. Edward Grime of Hendersonville and Nelson Jackson, Jr. of Tryon; also five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Mr. Jackson was born April 27, 1858. He formely lived in Chattanooga and came to Tryon 34 years ago and became a part ner with his son in the firm of Jackson & Jackson. He had been in the textile business nearly all his business life. In Tryon he served as a vestryman in the Church of the Holy Cross, was the first treasurer and one of the organizers of St. Lukes Hospital; and a charter member and past president of the Tryon Kiwanis club.
