filings a business man can do is
to contribute to the churches or
their causes—if he gives the money
outright or in goods and services
from his own supplies, but when
he takes an advertisement on
church fans or church bulletin
boards (just to help the churches)
he misses the mark. The main
thing he does is to encourage a
racket by schemers who charge a
big price for their product; he
makes it harder for fellow mer
chants who don’t believe in that
form of “help” to say “no”. The

ROTARY TO INSTALL
OFFICERS ON FRIDAY
The Tryon Rotary Club will have
the installation of officers at its
regular meeting on Friday. ' W.
H. (Shorty) McDonald becomes
president. Dr. Alexander Dye is
the new vice-president and Col.
Tom Poole will serve as secretary.
G. L. Houk, Franklin, N. C.,
attorney, has been invited to make
the address and have charge of
the installation. Mr. Houk is a
past district governor of Rotary
and is an accepted authority on
the way a Rotary club should
function.
L. K. Singley is the retiring
president of the Tryon Club.
LEGION MEETS JULY 1
The Polk County Post of the
American Legion will meet Tues
day, July 1, at the Court House
in Columbus.
SOFTBALL NEWS
The Baptist won over the Fire
men 11 to 10 Tuesday.
This afternoon at 4:30 the Blue
Ridge Weavers play the Methodist,
and at 6:30 the Rotarians will
play the Kiwanians.
HAGUE HOUSE BOUGHT
Mr. and Mrs. Marion Wilson
have bought the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Woodrow Hague between
school and Howard Streets. Sale
made through E. G. Ballew.
