Commenting on the progress of four summer theatres going full swing in Wes tern North Carolina and including the Lake Summit Theatre an edi torial in today’s Asheville Citizen says: “The Citizen sees no reason why a vigorous summer theatre movement should not thrive in Western North Carolina. Climate and geography favor it. Ample patronage should be forthcoming from thousands of residents and visitors who are interested in dramatic expression for its cul tural and entertainment values. _-Continued on Back Page_ SOFTBALL NEWS Wednesday at Harmon Field, the Baptists defeated the Metho dists 10 to 8; and the Adams Millis defeated the Tryon Process ing Co., 3 to 1. On Friday the Blue Ridge Weav ers will play the Tryon Firemen. LANDRUM NEWS NOTES Mrs. C. J. Stover, Mrs. Ben Cook and Mrs. Joe Scott entertain ed with a tea at Mrs. Stover’s home on the 17th in honor of Miss Ann Femsel of Norway. Little Billy Scott presented the 100 guests with cards which read Fernsel-Carpenter. Tasty refreshments of .sand wiches, mints, bride’s cake and punch were served. The marriage of Miss Fernsel and Lieut-Col. Sidney Carpenter, brother of the hostesses, will take place as soon as Mr. Carpenter is transferred from Germany to the United States. Misses Mel Lee and Rebecca Daniel of Greenville visted rela tives here last wek-end. The Barham Thomsons of Jack sonville, Fla., have returned to their home after visiting relatives in Landrum. Mrs. Essie Lancaster has re turned to Columbia. She spent several days with her sister, Mrs. B. F. Thomson, Sr. Miss Margie Daniel and Mrs. James Gathings have returned from Lewisburg, Pa.
