The new traffic light was working then and Mr. - Goodyear stopped on the red light signal and went across on the green. Dur ing that time motor traffic was held up a moment for him. Seems to be clicking all right. While the electricians were adjusting the timing of the lights traffic of all kinds in four directions was stoMped as promptly as if the j If had been there all these j veils. Blinker warning lights are being put up on the curve at Andrews Furniture Co., and at intersection of Hendersonville high way. A traffic STOP and GO sig nal will be put up at intersection of Howard and Trade between Pierce-Wilson Miotor Co., Ballew’s Grocery and Rector’s Cleaners . . . There is always room for hope but the Lanier Library is looking for “Great Expectations” by Dick ens, and what seems almost impos sible, an “Age of Innocence” by Wharton; and can you imagine this: an old Ladies Home Journal of May 19, 1947. Anyone having _.Continued on Back Page ! TRYON SCHOOL FACULTY ADDITIONS NAMED James Robert Gibson has been employed as principal of the High School and teacher of English. Mr. Gibson is a native of Inman, S. C., but more recently has made his home with his sister, Mrs. Ralph Williams, of Tryon. He received his education at Wofford College and the University of South Carolina and at Peabody and Furman where he did gradu ate work. Mr. Gibson received his M.A. degree from the Uni versity of South Carolina in June. Before entering the service, Mr. Gibson held responsible positions with the Parker School District in Greenville, where lie spent five years. During the recent war he served with the 712th Tank Batal lion and with the U. S. Group Control for Germany. He has been very active in Scout activities, having served for three years as Field Scout Executive for the Boy Scouts of America. Mrs. B. H. Smith of Spartan burg has been elected to teach the second grade. Mrs. Smith is an experienced teacher having taught the past ten years at High Point. She has her M.A. degree from Peabody an dis especially talented Peabody and is especially talented was done at Converse where she received her A.B. degree is music. Mrs. Lois Smith Beatson, wife of war veteran, Edward Beatson, who was one of our High School graduates the past year, has been employed to teach the sixth grade.
