AT KIWANIS TUESDAY
Kenneth Sanders had charge
of the Tryon Kiwanis Club pro
gram Tuesday at 1 p. m., at Oak
Hall and presented Dr. Rebekah
Gibbons, formerly head of the Nu
tritional Division of the Univer
sity of Nebraska. She gave an
outline of some of the advantages
and problems of preparing, freez
ing and defrosting frozen foods.
She believed every family should
have a home freezer or locker in
the freezer locker plant.
Chas. J. Lynch reported the ad
ditions of a wheel chair and two
more crutches for use of invalids.
Guests at the meeting included
Farry Barber of Hendersonville,
who has a 17-year perfect atttend
ance record; Wesley Lewis of
Greenville, S. C., Col. Wm. A.
Schilletter and Herbert Thatcher
of Tryon.
Melvin Hill Man
Directs Church Program
Galen B. Crist (Melvin Hill)
has been appointed district direc
tor of the “Advance With Christ”
program of the Church of the
Brethren, according to an announ
cement; received here from the gen
eral headquarters ‘ of the church
in Elgin, 111.
Crist’s region covers the states
of North and South Carolina.
The “Advance With Christ” pro
gram, which was adopted by the
church* at the recent annual con
ference in Florida, is an effort to
‘'translate faith into more aggres
sive action.” Regional and local
directors are being appointed to
awaken individual churches to their
responsibility in the program.
