Bethea had charge of the Tryon Kiwanis Club pro gram Tuesday at Oak Hall and in troduced as his guest speaker Dr. Claude E. Scarborough, pastor of the Tryon First Baptist Church. Dr. Scarborough based his talk on two nursery rhymes, “Little Boy Blue” and “Jack and Jill” which teach that all of us have respon sibilities and jobs to do; and the need of cooperation by everyone to make a successful community and nation. He said our failure to do our jobs brings waste and suffering. He said there is nothing worse than the bad citizenship of good people. Our nation was founded by spiritu al people in high places. Democracy requires the highest type of citizen ship. We must make democracy grow by education and the proper influences. We must throw around our young people those things that . - help them to grow in the ways of democracy. We mpst put in our community everything helpful and move out everything that would be a stumbling block. No person . < falls without .someone else falling, too. (Dike Jack and Jill).
