AT KIWANIS TUESDAY Tryon and Rutherfordton Ki wanis Clubs held a joint ladies’ night program Tuesday at Oak Hall hotel. A musical program was presented by Dr. R. A. Laslett Smith which included vocal solos by Mrs. N. L. Wilson and assemb ly singing by the two clubs. Dr. Alexander V. Dye, retired diplomat, was the guest speaker and he gave an outline of the his tory and problems of the Palestine situation. J. Frank Gallimore had charge of the program and introduced the speaker. There were 110 present includ ing the Lieutenant-Governor-Elect A. Fary Barber of Hendersonville and Mrs. Barber. Tryon Basketball Team Named The Red Stars The Tryon Community Basket ball team hasjbeen formally named the Red Stars and will play the first game Saturday night at 7:30 at the Tryon gym with the Gasto nia Athletic Club for the Deaf. Equipment is needed for 12 men players and 10 girls. The teams I have joined the Spartanburg I County League and the Thermal j Belt League and the players want to make a presentable showing in ) other communities. Officials of the local organization are soliciting donations from anyone wishing to have part in the success of the team. Contributions may be sent to Dr. Emil Smith or to Clyde Tharpe.
