A few complained i of'being too hot. .The day was a busy one in Tryon with parties, that began in the afternoon and ended sometime this morning. Dances were held at Sunnydale, Country Club and Parish House. There were private dinner parties at the hotels and inns and in the homes of many who stayed up to see the old year go out and the &ew one come ip, and to turn on radio and here the millions fluting at Times Square in New York. Everybody is getting ready for a big 1948. Love of friends and Cooperation of neighbors m do big things for every cummu in the nation. Don’t worry about Mr. Wallace. He probably passed v a radio receiver when he heard the words, “H-E-N-R-E-E!” and didn’t get the Aldrich part*, and thought his public Was calling for him. . . . President W. C. Ward of the Tryon Bank & Tmst CO., said that Edwin F. Lucas, 53, of Greensboro, who died in Boston, was a director of the Southern Mercerizing Co., of Try on ... . Celebration of the Holy Com munion at 9:30 a. m., at the Epis copal Church. Regular services at the Methodist and Baptist Church es at 11 a. m., and at the Pres byterian Church at 7 d. m. Mr. and Mrs. Burgle Pace had as guests this week, Carl Franklin and son, Earl, from Chandler, Oklahoma. On Christmas Day they entertained 28 dinner guests, Mir. and Mrs. Mitghell Capps from Dana, N. C., and their sons and grandsons. Mary Lou McCallister a student X-ray technician from Sewanee Grey School of Medicine, spent the holidays with her family, and had as her guest part of the time, Martha Surel, a student of the University of North Carolina Mary Lou will return" to Winston Salem on Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Bishop and daughter, Frances, of Inman, S. C., spent Sunday with P. A. Bishop and family. - ' A party was given by Miss L-ieo Hall at her heme on Christmas Night. The out-of-town guests were Martha and Doris Burch, Ronald Boling, Edward Blackwell and J. H. Yelton, all of Hendersonville. Mr. and Mrs. Max Coleman spent the week-end with the Cole man family in Canton. . Mrs. H. G. Laughter is seriously, ill at St. Luke’s hospital in Tryon. A group of young folks under the direction of Mr. and Mrs. Rpy Johnson sang carols on the streets on Christmas Eve. This is a love __ Continued on Back Pago
