SALUDA NEWS By Miss R. E. Blair In a recent publication of Berlin, Germany, “The Stars and Stripes” there appeared a photograph of Mrs. Frederick L. Devereux, who is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Halcott Green of Saluda. Mrs. Devereux was shown assorting bundles of clothing to be given to the needy Germans. Mr. and Mrs. Devereux have been in Berlin Mrs. Albert Salley has been suffering from a severe cold, since Miay, 1947. Mr. Deveraux is an economic advisor to General Lucious Clay. Mrs. Deveraux is president of the Woman’s Club of the American Zone, and was chairman of the Community Chest end Drive; the first Community Chest Drive ever held in military controlled Germany. Robert Seay of the Episcopal Church in Saluda, was chosen as delegate and Miss R. E. Blair, al ternate, to the meeting to be held in Asheville 6n January 14th, to elect a successor to the Rt. Rev. R. E. Gribbin, bishop of Western North Carolina, whose resignation was due to ill health, and was recently accepted. Mrs. D. H. Leonard, who has been at the Spartanburg General hospital, is reported as improved. C. .H. Bishop of Tryon spent the day with his father, P. A. Bishop on Tuesday. Services at the Presbyterian Church on the firsf ahd third Sun days of the month, will- be held at 7:30 p. m. On the second and fourth Sundays at 11 a. m. Mrs. Claude Emory who went to Nashville last week with the delegation to learn the making of hypodermic needles, had a rather serious accident. She fell on the icy street in Nashville and broke a bone in her leg. She was brought back to Saluda and Miss Pauline Ward will replace her. Mrs. A. M. Bushnell, who has been with Miss Blanche Hamilton in Asheville is now at a nursing home in Asheville. Her nephew, Walter Mace, visited her recently. Dr. and Mrs. P. N. Crawford have gone to Sarasota, Fla., for fe few weeks. Dr. Crawford hfta accepted a position with the Badger Pharmacy at Sarasota.
