A new cold wave is headed East. Many places have below zero tempera tures. It 19 below at Green Bay. Land ces, Wis., had 42 below . . . The biggest heart in Tryon is probably the one being made as part of the decoration of the P.-T. A. Bridge and Games Party on Wednesday night at the Parish House. Mrs. Byron Rector has charge of the decorations. She re ports that 2o different people are lending bridge tables for the evept. Others are doing varipus things to make the community party a suc cess. Miiss Elmina Wages director of Recreation, will have the help of her canteen girls m making and putting up dedorations. Mrs. Wm. Spivey . states that more prizes have been offered Jby Automatic -Continued on Pick Page I More For March of Dimes Additional donations received to day brought the total raised so far to $1,318.06. These new donors are Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Hester, Dr. and Mrs. Edmund Wylie, Mrs. E. Pue-Williams, Carroll P. Rog ers, Mrs. James P. Maclay, Miss Caroline Danis, Miss Mary Danis, and $1.99 from Tryon school (its third contribution). This week is the final period of the campaign. A report to Nation al and State headquarters must be made. The campaign director states that he hopes those who ex pect to donate will do so as soon as possible in order for Polk Coun ty to report having reached its goal on the first report. Donations may be sent to Mrs. F. W. Sprague, treasurer, or to The Bulletin office. Luncheon to Honor Speaker Coming Td Tryon Thursday Dr. Ellen Winston, who will ad dress the Lanier Club Thursday afternoon at 3:30 will be the guest of honor Thursday noon at lunch eon at Oak Hall. A group of county officials and civic leaders who know of Dr. Winston’s impor tance in the state, are taking the opportunity to confer with her be fore her address at the Lanier Club. The public is invited to hear Dr. Winston at the Lanier library. Dr. Winston is a native of North Carolina, p graduate of Converse College, and a leader in solving human problems. The local com mittee of the Lanier Club has worked several months to get her for Tryon, and when it became known that she accepted she was beseiged with petitions to speak | at numerous places in the section.
