C., TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 17,1948 The weather man lost his weath er report today, a day of all days. It's just like spring outside, plenty of sunshine and the birds filling the air with their music. Some of the stores have already display ed their seed rack, and garden lovers have been looking them over and wondering if they could pro duce flowers and vegetables that look as good as the ones pictured on the packages . . . Just as Russia and Germany carried on a war in Spain for several years before war was declared, Russia is attempting to do the same thing with the U. fOn Korea where she has a large 'fRy congregated to take over the whole of Korea . . . Now that the rain has about stopped, it’s time for Tryon to get a good clean up. The. streets need to be washed. It’s terribly dusty. If the town just had enough money in the treasury- for cleaning and repair ing a lot could be done. ■ A lot of people have moved to Tryon in the past few years, but many have built outside the city limits and the local government gets no bene fit from a taxation standpoint. The city council has a big problem on its hands because the town streets are in bad shape, toq, and the col ored school has no sfwage disposal -Continued on Bqpk Page HONOR COURT RESULTS The Polk County Boy Scout Court of Honor held in the school building in Tryon, Monday night opened with prayer followed with the repeating of the Scout oath. The following Scouts were ad vanced in rank: Tenderfoot Rank: Bobby Henson, Charles Ravan, Joe Vernon, Tryon; Everette Hardin, Saluda; Billy Fields, Columbus. Second Class: Gay S. Corpening,. Ambrose Mills, Tryon;" Harold Dean Pace, Saluda. Medit Badges awarded— Carpentry: Glenn Head, Colum bus; citizenship, Joe Raymond Stephenson, Saluda; Cooking, Jim my Pace, Saluda; pathfinding, Jack Coates, Saluda; dairying, Larry Wilson, Saluda; firemanship, Billy Egerton, Saluda; pioneering, Roy Blackwell, Jr., Tryon; reading, Roy Blackwell, Jr., Tryon; scholarship, Wiley White, Tryon. Eagle Scout: Wiley White, Try on. Those serving on the Court were J. T. Arledge, Stanley Walkowicz, Paul Culberson, Seth M. Vining, R. M. Schiele, James O. Salford, Rev. Frank W. Murtfeldt, James Gibson, Bob Millikin, Rev. Homer Brady, Troy Durham. After the business of the Court was completed a colored motion picture, the “Boy Scout Trail to Citizenship,” was shown. The meet ing adjourned with the repeating of the Sceut benediction. The Education Branch of the North Carolina Division of For estry and Parks is planning to dis tribute 10,000 copies of a new for estry text book, “Ten Lessons In Forestry,” to the elementary grades throughout the State.
