C„ THURSDAY.- DEC. 2ND. 1948 Weather Wednesday: High 61, low 28 . . . The Tryon Bank & Trust Co., has been permitting local artists to display some of their pictures in the lobby of the bank. The latest are those of Mrs. John C. Lavingood depicting scenes of Tryon, South Carolina, • Louisiana and Indiana. Mrs. Lav ingood and Mrs. A. W. Brintnall whose pictures were just recently exhibited at the bank, are members of the Asheville Artists Guild which is remodeling an old build ing for an art gallery near Bilt more. One of the charms of Tryon jhomes are the pictures by local B/rtists and it is nice to know "that these pictures will give en joyment to the thousands of people who will visit Tryon in the future. One noted artist we have in mind today, because his birthday conies on December 18th, is Lawrence Maryanovich. He was born at sea off the Coast of California in 1871. He studied at the Art Institute of rhicago and at the Art Students’ l eague of New York. He went abroad for five years and studied near Fontainbleau, Paris. He has exhibited in Beaux' Arts, France; Chicago, New York, Boston. He is represented in permanent collec tions of Art Institute of Chicago, Continued on Back Paf/e_ LAXTON HAMRICK IS HONORED BY S. S. The Sunday school of the First Baptist church of Rutherfordton, Sunday presented Laxton Hamrick two attractive lamps in apprecia tion of his services as General Superintendent of the Sunday school and deacon three years, two of which he served as chairman. Supt. J. J. Tarlton made the presentation Sunday morning at the opening of Sunday school. Mr. Hamrick has accepted the place as superintendent of the Tryon city schools and will soon move his family to Tryon. Mrs. Hamrick will drive back and forth and continue to teach in the Ruth erfordton elementary school for the present.—Rutherford Co. News. COLUMBUS NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Johnny A. Davis of Shubuta, Miss., arrived Sunday for several days’.visit with Mrs. Davis’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Edwards. Miss Frances Jackson of Cooper’s Gap was the week-end guest of her sister, Mrs. Burgin Levi, and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. James W. Kyle of Richmond, Va., spent Thanksgiving holidavs with relatives here and in Asheville.
