But Chicago reports that the cold weather is moving east ward from a 42 below in Montana. Snow and rain moving into Texas. Tryon’s low was one degree warm er than Los Angeles, Calif., Sun day. California fruit crops have been hit hard by the freeze . . . Dean Acheson succeeds General Marshall as Secretary of, State and James E. Webb of North Caro linjr^becomes Undersecretary of ^ . . Beginning January 14th .an’^Intensive campaign will be waged all over the nation for funds with which to fight infantile paralysis and to help those strick en with the .disease . . . There will he balls and contests of all kinds for the benefit of the polio sufferers. In Polk County contributions may be sent to Mrs. W. F. Sprague, Tryon, treasurer, or to The Bulle tin office. For the past ten years all the money contributed in Polk County haa gone directly to the 'infantile paralysis fund. Half of the amount went to national head quarters and the other half re mained in Polk County to help local sufferers. We had five new strings of lights made this year, and bought 300 new bulbs, and hired four men to put up the trees and lights. The first call was to the home of Mrs. W. C. Bates where the tall grass was on fire in the neighborhood of her house. The second call was on Stlnday to put out burning kudzu vines back of the Supreme Service Station* Miss Mae Irene Flentye will be the guest speaker at Tryon Ki wanis Tuesday at 1 p. m.
