Truman is tile first Demo cratic Vice-president to become President in over 100 years, since John Tyler succeeded William Henry Harrison at his death in 1841. Truman is the first Demo gjjjttic Vice-president to be elected ^JPident since Martin Van- Buren who was inaugurated in 1837 to succeed Andrew Jackson, who had completed twe terms. Franklin D. Roosevelt was the only Demo cratic President to die in office and he was on his fourth term, something unusual. . .
