Additional contributions to the

paign have brought the total to
date to approximately $500 with
$2,600 yet to be raised to reach
the quota of $3,100. Mrs. F. W.

Mr. and Mrs. Franklin E. Park
er Jr. have announced the mar
riage of their daughter, Miss
Laura' Hathaway Parker, to Mr.
'Edison Avery Price, on Saturday,
January 15th, at Greenwich, Conn.
The bride is a granddaughter
of the late James H. Perkins,
former head of the National City
Bank of New York and former
owner of the Cotton Patch in
Tryon.
Members of the bride’s family
have spent part of their vacations
in Tryon for the past 10 years.

Mrs. Ella Wilson of Cooper’s
Gap is a patient at St. Luke’s
hospital.
Patients discharged include Mrs.
Herbert Rhodes and baby son, of
Columbus; Mrs. Jacquelyn Kuhn
of Tryon, and Mrs. Ozell Howard
and baby son of Landrum.
Hall B. Miles Jr. of Durham will
be the week-end guest in the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Seth M. Vining.

The P.-T. A. met Thursday af
ternoon at Stearns school with a
good number present. Mrs. Mc
Farland, the president, presiding.
The -fifth grade had the largest
number of parents present. After
the customary business meeting,
Miss Thompson, guest speaker, of
Polk-Rutherford Health Unit, was
introduced by Mrs. James Swain.
Miss Thompson’s talk was packed
with good suggestions to mothers
and teachers. After adjournment
a social hour was enjoyed.
The Women of the Presbyterian
church meet next Tuesday after
noon, Jan. 24, at 3 o’clock,
Mrs. W. W. Brazeal at her
new home on the Landrum road.
A study of China is to be given
at this meeting, supervised by Mrs.
Charley Ashley, secretary of for
eign missions.
