Memphis, Tenn., had a 7 over zero Tuesday, Bowling Green, Ky, had 3 above. Minnesota had 10 to 15 below .... A Navy re cruiting officer is in Landrum to day at the post office . . . Betty Sturgis’ new shop next door to fqjmer quarters is very attrac+>e ■ a number of enthusiastic fljBKds from Spartanburg, Char lotte and other places were among those who responded to the invi tation to attend the opening last Friday. A number of friends serv ed as models and refreshments were served to all who attended. .Stearns school is putting on the “funniest circus on earth” Saturday night, Feb. 5th, at 7:30 in the Steams gym. One fellow hid snf ... .....Continued on Back Pape.-/fL MISS NORA JONES Miss Nora Jones* daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ellison Jones, pioneer Polk County citizens, died Tuesday night at the Baptist hos pital in Winston-Salem. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p. m., at Flat Rock Baptist Church of which she was a member, with the pastor, the Rev. N. B. Phillips, officiating. Interment will be in Tryon ceme tery. Nephews will be pallbearers. The deceased is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Vance Thomp son, Mrs. T. A. Rippy, Miss Edna Jones of Tryon and three brothers, J. H. Jones of Suffolk, Va., C. C. Jones of Flat Rock, and Roy Jones of Columbus. McFarland Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. MRS. H. L. CAPPS Mrs. Elizabeth Capps, 67, died suddenly this morning about 7:30 o’clock at her home in Saluda. She was the widow of the late H. L. Capps, mayor of Saluda for many years. Funeral services will be held Fri day morning-at 11 o'clock at the residence in Saluda and burial will be in Saluda cemetery. The deceased was a member of the Methodist Church and the Rev. Mr. Fitzgerald, pastor, will offi ciate. The deceased is survived by one son, L. D. Capps, of New York City; one daughter, Mrs. Edna Mae Guynn of Saluda; three sis ters, Mrs. Sally Foster of Mill Spring, Mrs. Belle Constance of Columbus; Mrs. Maud Dill of Hen dersonville; four brothers, Shirrell Davis and Dewey Davis, of Hen dersonville, John Davis, of Salnda, | and Alvin Davis, of Tennessee.
