Reading the front pages of big newspapers ,^Uces one feel that he is reading "^Wtine matter that has been color ed with adjectives and insinua tions to make much ado about noth ing and to excite the reader’s in terest. In the meantime so many vital things are being neglected in home communities all over Ameri Schools, streets, parks, public services and numerous things need to be improved. Child labor laws have taken young people from jobs that teach a trade and have not. replaced the loss with vocational training in high schools, conse quently most of our young pleople are growing up with no skills and only book learning. They grow up and are ready to be married with out the ability to make a living or to stand on their own feet. One hope a young boy has of learning something about various occupa ps is to join the Boy Scouts __ ere he is taught over 21 differ ent subjects before he becomes an Eagle Scout. He is guided by the l est experts in the community. For first aid, he must pass a test before a doctor, for firemanship before a member of the fire depart ment, carpentry, electricity, me chanics, cooking, safety, and any of the other trades before a per son qualified for the occupation, let’s make America strong at home. On Sunday Scoutmaster C. W. McCall and his Tryon Scouts will attend the Presbyterian church in a body to open National Scout Week in Tryon. POLK COURT RESULTS Following the the result of the Polk County Superior Court, which is in session this week, with Judge Z. V. Nettles, of Asheville, presid ing. The results includes Monday and Tuesday’s sessions: Harold Pierce, speeding, $25 and costs. Otho Gosnell, reckless driving; prayer fpr judgment continued for 2 years; payment of costs. (All driving drunk cases found guilty carry a penalty of licenses revoked, beside fine and costs). Fred Moss, driving drunk, $100 and costs. George Lindsey Epton, driving drunk, carrying a concealed weap on, $150 and costs. Lee Henry Johnson, driving drunk, called and failed, bond of $250 forfeited. Joe Allen, driving drunk, called and failed, bond of $150 forfeited. Gordon R. Neves, driving drunk, $100 and costs. Arthur Kuykendall, d r i ving drunk, $100 and costs.
