Over 4,000 people were in Raleigh Thursday to ask the legislature for state aid in build w schools, get more and better .i^ftes and to pay more for better teachers. The concensus was that the people are willing to pay more for better education for their chil dren. Those going from Tryon and Polk County included W. H. Mc Donald, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Cul berson, Gaden Corpening, Supt. Laxton Hamrick, Nelson Jackson III, v Mr. and Mrs. Byron Rector, Mrs. Roger Shaffer . . . Today’s Asheville Citizen states that the legislature granted a 20 per cent increase to teachers and state em ployees retroactive to October 1. The State Advisory commission wants to give $54 million less than the State Board’s request for $220 million . . , Plans are about com plete for the Chamber of Commerce dinner meeting at Sunnydale for Tuesday night at 7:15. . It will be j^home-town meeting with repre- j ^ntatives from neighboring com tnunities participating. The enter tainment features will include Mir. and Mrs. M; B. Flynn, Mrs. Nel son Jackson ill, Mrs. H. B. Frank enfield and assembly singing for music. Wm. Spivey and Fred Akin will- give a minstrel skit. Short talks 3 to 4 minutes each will be given by Dr. A.
