He has just received the Junior
-Citizenship Award given by the
Boys Clubs of America and will be.,
given a trip to New York and a
two week’s vacation at Red Ryder
Ranch, Pagosa Springs, Col. He
also received the John Brown
Award for greatest advancement in
Scouting. He is a student at
Reynolds High School And works
part time in addition to his extra
curricular activities. . . .

Tryon is getting to be a dupli
cate center with players from
Spartanburg, Asheville and Char
lotte winning here. Winners of
Thursday’s tournament held at the
Congregational church house were,
North-South, first, Miss Gladys
Lyles and Miss Mary Anderson of
Spartanburg; second, Mr. and Mrs.
G. L. Crawford of Asheville; East
West, first, Mrs. Ernest Halstead
and C. E. Harris of Spartanburg:
second, Mrs. Kate Williamson and
R. R. Benham. Last week’s 10
tables is an indication of the in
terest carried on by the Tryon
And visiting bridge players since
the first duplicate bridge tourna
ment was put on at the Country
Club almost two years ago by
Jimmy Jackson and several others.
Even more tables are-expected this

Tryon horses won several rib
bons in the Horse Show at Camden

James A. Blackwood, won second
place; “Captain Shawl” owned and*
ridden hv Arthur Reynolds, won
third; “Scarlet”, owned and ridden
by Mrs. Blackwood, won fourth.
“Scarlet” also won a fourth in the
Green Hunters class.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas W. Phipps
of New York are guests of Mr.
and Mrs. M. B. Flynn at Little
Orchard.
Friday’s Asheville Times . fea
tured Margaret Culkin Banning
in its Birthday column. Her birth
day is the 18th of March. Several
days ago The Asheville Citizen had
a brief article on World Peace
written by Mrs. Banning under
the sponsorship of the United
World Federalists and the intro
duction stated that she spent part
of each year at her Tryon home.
Mrs. Banning said women want
peace and law and order- foi
whole world and believe it is
sible.
