Charlotte expects to have television this fall. . . . Tryon High School golf team defeated Waynesville here Tuesday to take the lead in the conference. Tryon has not lost argame so far and was tied with Waynesville un til Tuesday. Tryon golfers are proud of the local team and have al ready started a fund to buy golf balls and colorful uniforms for boys who are representing ^jpfcommunity. The community has been invited to send a high school team to the Kiwanis tour nament at Greenville, S. C., and Chairman W. W. Lord is eager to have the Tryon boys go and make a good showing for Tryon. Any one desiring to contribute to this fund may send donations to W. W. Lord, Box 691, Tryon . . . Interest in the success of the Tryon Hos pital campaign for funds is increas ing daily. In addition to an ef ficient superintendent in Miss Flor ence E. Walden, Karl F. f'ontinuid on Back Page..,_ Waynesville Linksmen Taste First Defeat The Tryon High School Golf team handed the Waynesville Moun taineers their first defeat of the season Tuesday by the score of 9 to 1. By virtue of the win Tryon took over first place in the Blue Ridge conference standings. The summary: Edwards (T) defeated Green (W) 3-0; Burns (T) defeated Rod gers (W) 3-0; Mack (T) defeated Early (W) 2-1; j*nd McKaig (T) and Mills (W) tied 1-1. LIBBY’S LINES The golf association of the Try on Country Club is planning a mix ed foursome golf tournament with handicaps Sunday afternoon be ginning at 3 o'clock at the club. A picnic supper will follow the tournament and each family or group is to bring their own picnic. Visitors are invited to come wheth er they are members of the club or not. Last summer a similar tournament was held with ob stacles. The obstacles on the first hole consisted of a big tub of watgr with a floating block of wood on top on which the golf ball was teed. Needless to say, there were quite a few wet drives. No obstacles gre scheduled for this tournament on Sunday, but one never can tell. For inside information about the Block House Steeplechase, keep tuned in to WSPA at 6:30 p. m. and listen to the interviews by Snorts Director Ed McGrath. WSPA will broadcast the races on Saturday. Ice hockey is at least 200 years old.
