C., WEDNESDAY, NOV. 16. 1949 Weather Tuesday: High 67, low 38. Such beautiful weather now with blue skies and lots of sun shine. Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Kimberly who have just returned from a month’s stay in California enjoyed the trip but hated to miss the good weather in Tryon . . . The Vernon Smiths had some guests the other day who are moving from New York to California. They remark ed about how wonderful the Weath er was here. Mr. Smith said, “Yes, but this is unusual. It is usually better.” .... James F. Roosevelt i elder son of the late Franklin, is a candidate for governor of Cali fornia . . . The papers are carry pictures of Mrs. Carleton S. ^^dley in the new automobile Vice rres'dent Barkley gave her as a wedding present , . . . All this af ternoon the Polk County Wildlife Club will hold a field meet at Har mon Field beginning at 1 o’clock. Rifle a^d trap shooting will be en joyed. 50 turkeys will be awarded as prizes. The public is invited to see this, and to eat with the members at a picnic supper for the price of the meal only. Tryon’s last football e-am° .of the season will be played at Harmon Field Friday at 3:15. Ben Lippen versus Tryon Tigers. Rutherfordton Lawyer Is Speaker At Public Forum Here Tuesday Night Hon. Woodrow Jones, legislator and civic leader of Rutherfordton, addressed the public meeting spon sored by the Tryon Chamber of Commerce Rational Affairs Com mittee, Tuesday night at 8, at Tryon school auditorium. Mr. Jones outlined the history of Communism beginning with Karl Marx in Germany, and traced its development to its present rowerful stage in Russia headed by Joseph Stalin. Then he compared life under Communism with life under the American Democratic form of government. He emphasiz ed the dangers of being misled by Communist front organizations and said that if all people would prac tice the principles of Christianity and teach the love of libery and home life that we would not have to fear any other ism. A question and answer period followed the address and various members in the audience took oart. Chairman C. D. Stevens of the -Chamber of Commerce committee presided and introduced the speak er. ! Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Becker of New York and Redding, Conn., enroute to Florida, have been visit ing Mr- and Mrs. H. M. Saumenig of Warrior Mountain Road. Mr. Seeker is an engineer-executive of Ebasco, a subsidiary of Electric Bond & Share Co., one of the large public utility companies with op erations scattered throughout the ! country | Mrs. E. G. Metcalf has returned I from Pensacola, Fla. where she vis ited her son, T|Sgt. Jack 'Metcalf.
