Going to Burma In August, Turners Jr. Visit Parents Here Mr. and Mrs. Eugene A. Turner Jr., are here for a few days for a visit with their parents. On Wed nesday they go to Atlanta for a farewell dinner given by the “Gene Turner Fund”, as a group of Georgia Tech and other friends, who for years backed Mr. and Mrs. Turner Sr., in their work in China, and now have taken Mr. and Mrs. Turner Jr., as they sail in August for Y. M. C. A. work in Burma. The farewell dinner Wednesday evening is to be given in the Geor «.Institute of Technology dining |i. Dean Cherry Emerson of « rgia Tech is to give the prin cipal address on the history of the “’Gene Turner Fund” and bespeak the good wishes of the Fund mem bers as the Turners go to take up their work in Burma. A num ber of Tryon citizens who have long been members of the Fund are on the invitation list for the fare well dinner. Eugene Turner Jr., attended school in Tryon and was for years a member of the Erskine Memo rial Church. He is a graduate of the U. of N. C., and the Yale Divinity School. In addition to his training and experience as a Y. M. C. A, boys worker, he is also an experienced Boy Scout leader. He served as chaplain of the First Marines in the last war. Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Ballew have returned from^their vacation at Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Mr. atid Mrs. Earl Foy went to Detroit and Canada for their vaca tion. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Pittman and daughter, Elaine, have returned from Aeir vacation in Florida. Bill Ramsay* has returned to Hickory, N. C., after a visit in the home of Dr. and Mrs. Horace Lyons at Rackin’ Ridge Farm. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Feder are visiting in New York state.
