Saluda and the rest of Polk County including Tryon are having opportunities to entertain over 100 doctors and their wives who are attending the seminar in Saluda for three weeks. These visitors do a lot of hiking, sightseeing, wndow shop ping, fishing, playing golf and tennis, and enjoy many other forms of recreation offered in the vicinity. On Monday a group of doctors’ wives visited the Blue Ridge Weavers where they were iifr^d refreshments and given j^jpenirs. Included in the group were Mrs. J. Visitors often judge a town and its people by the cleanliness of _rContinued, on Back Page_ LIBBY’S LINES One of the loveliest golf courses anywhere in the country is the picturesque 18-hole golf course at Linville, less than a three hours drive _from Tryon. The out of bound markers on so many of the holes are split rail fences bordered with flowers and green lawns of the lovely summer homes situated along side the fairways. Parallel to No. 2 tee is the home of the E. C. Griffiths of Charlotte. Mrs. Griffith who was chairman of the Linville Women’s Invitational Tournament shoots in the 70’s and low 80’s, consistantly and contrib utes to the success of the Linville and Charlotte Invitationals each year. As a frequent visitor to Tryon, Mrs. Griffith has played Try.on’s golf course and participat ed in the Duplicate Bridge tour namtjnis. oome oi me oanKS oi, the mountain streams running through the Linville course are built of rock and others are, ter raced with logs, while foot bridges crossing over them take you through rhododendron and laurel in full bloom, overhanging the water. Grandfather Mountain, which is said to be the oldest mountain in the world, keeps a watchful eye over the. small sum mer resort town which hasn’t even a grocery store. A delivery truck comes each day and goes from house to house with fresh vege tables and fruits. Traditional Eseeola Lodge is still the center of events offering its guests golf, riding, tennis, swimming, and boat ing, and one of the 6 telephones in Linville.
