Sayre, who made a delightful and informative talk at the Rotary Friday was in vited to give the same talk to the Kiwanians on Tuesday and they also enjoyed it. Mr. Sayre gave a brief outline of the development -Continued on Back Page_ Culberson Speaks to Lions At the Lions meeting Tuesday night, Joe Stockton introduced as guest speaker, Paul Culberson, Polk County farm agent. Mr. Culberson spoke of the Polk County Calf Foudation program which originat 1945 with 19 calves. It pro a 4-H boy or girl a 4 to 6 fiths old calf. The first off spring is given to another member and so on, forming a chain. In the 5 years progress, about 54 calves have been passed on this way. The question of whether the Lions Club would buy and spon sor a Foundation Calf was refer red to the board of directors who will report to the Lions Club one month from this meeting. A num ber of Lions will be present for the annual foundation cattle show and-luncheon at Harmon Field on Monday, August 14th. The club has voted to buy glass es for 5 Polk County boys and girls who are now in need of them. LIBBY’S LINES A society note from a recent Chicago Tribune says:. “Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Helder (Judy Waller) of Holland, Mich., are being con gratulated on the arrival July 5, of their first child, a daughter, Pamela Waller, in Passavant hos pital. The baby's grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. William Waller, of Lake Shore Drive and Mr. and Mrs. John Helder of Holland, Mich.” Mr. Helder was at Pine Crest Inn for several years and a rider in Tryon’s Annual Steeplechase. The July 6 issue of the Los Altos, Calif., “Town Crier” had on its front page a picture of Miss Pat Herron and Miss Meta An tisdal presenting two of the Daum ier Puppets, a tiger and an Indian brahman in the play, “Not So Clever Tiger.” Pat and Meta are the owners, directors, script writ ers, animation technicians, voices and stage hands for a new Los Altos project called “Daumier Puppets.” These particular pup pets are hand-puppets and accord ing to the article under the pic ture they rely on the human hand for life. Pat and Meta are also adept at making and working “string puppets” which are ani mated by pulling a set of strings attached to its body. Before com ing to Los Alto^ .Pat and Meta were with a puppet company in Cleveland and did some aating themselves with a theatre group there. Pat also directed a chil dren’s theatre. When the two puppet producers were in Tryon last summer visiting Pat’s parents, Major and Mirs. A. R.
