other road tragedy was noted on
Wednesday afternoon late when a
sparrow chasing a bug landed
on the newly tarred road up Grady
Avenue hill. Both feet and wings

CHARGE 9 LANDRUM
MEN WITH MURDER
Nine Landrum men were charged
with the murder of Elmer Wyatt
Jr., following an inquest Wednes
day night at Landrum. .
Rural Police Chief George
Pruette said Dean Nodine, 18, ad
mitted firing the fatal pistol blast
I Tuesday night. Coroner George L.
! Adams issued murder warrants for
9 men who were present at the
killing after the inquest jury rec
ommended they be held for fur
ther investigation.
Chief Pruette said testimony at
the hearing brought out that the
group decided to meet outside of
Landrum Tuesday night to settle
an argument. Officers said one
gun was taken from Nodine and
another found on Wyatt.
Men charged remained in Coun
ty Jail Wednesday night. They
are: George Whitesides, 20, Billy
Whitesides, 19, Earl Dill, 23, John
B. Kelly, $3, T. W. Dill Jr., 21,
Jimmy C. Raines, 19, Clyde Raines,
15, T. E. Bridgeman, 19, and
Nodine.
Wyatt, 23, was an Air- Force
veteran from Landrum.
Funeral servk^es for Wyatt will
oe held this aftm^noon (Thursday)
at 3 at Jackson N?rove Methodist
Church. The Rev. N. K. Polk will
officiate. Burial in the church
cemetery.
