Tonight is the night of the duplicate bridge tournament at the Congregational church house to which everyone interested, es pecially visitors, is invited. Friday night at 7:30 Polk County His tory will be formally presented in ceremonies at the Court House. The public invited. Dr. and Mrs. C. C. Crittenden of Raleigh will be the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Carroll P. Rogers following the reception at the Court House. John G. Landrum of the Arrangements, states that Miss Ruth Kesler and Miss Caro lyn Flynn and some of their club members will serve the refresh ments in the Court House lobby. Dr. and Mrs. Crittenden and Mrs. Sadie S. Patton, the author, will be guests at a dinner at Oak Hall hotel beginning at 6 o’clock prior to the program .... Saturday night beginning at 6:30 the Young Democrats of the county are invit ing everybody to a free barbecue and rally at Harmon Field to meet the Democratic nominee for con* gress, Woodrow Jones, and other political leaders .... Sunday af ternoon at 4 o’clock another big public gathering will be held at the colored Recreation Center which will have its formal open ing at 4 p. m. White and colored _are invited and both races will have a part in the program. Clar ence Jackson is the president of the center. Mrs. Jessie D. Ames will be the chief speaker. Mrs. Russell Walcott, chairman of the Recrea tion Commission; Misses Elmina Wages and Polly Mills, directors,. Mayor C. D. Stevens, Fred Powell, vocalist, have all been invited to take part. Mrs. Sadie Smathers Patton, author of Sketches of Polk Coun ty History, will be present Friday night at the Court House in Columbus when her history book will be formally presented to the county. John Henry Gibbs, co chairman of the Polk County His tory Commission will present the book to R. E. Brantley, chairman of the Board of County Commis sioners who will accept the book on behalf of the people of the county.' Or. C. C. Crittenden, of Raleigh, director of the Department of Ar chives and History will deliver the principal address.
