APPEAL TO YOUNG POLK Halloween is just around the corner. Now is the time for parents to plan with their children how they may have a night of hilarity without bringing destruction of any kind in the community. The Parent Teachers Association makes a special appeal for our young peo ple to show the citizens of Tryon that they can* have a good time without damage" to public property, personal property and cars. With pancake season here again do you know how to turn them out that appetizing, even golden brown which makes your menfolk drool? One secret is a well-seasoned griddle. Scour it first with fine steel wool; suds, rinse, and dry it well. Brush the griddle’s bak ing surface with a liberal coating of unsalted fat or salad oil. Heat it slowly atop the stove or in the oven for two or three hours; re new the fat or oil coating at 20 minute intervals. After the griddle has cooled, scrub it in hot soapsuds; rinse and dry.
