TUESDAY, NOV. 14TH, 1950 Weather Monday: High 58, low 26 ... . The war continues in Korea as U. S. Forces get within 25 miles of Manchuria. Weather very cold there. . . Head of Vene zuela assassinated . . . One of the nicest parties ever held in Tryon was the farewell reception given Monday night at the Congregation al church house for the retiring pastor, Rev. Frank W. Murtfeldt. A large number of friends gather ed for the fellowship and. refresh ments and gave farewell greetings. As a token of their appreciation of his services to the church and community a gift of over J£l.500 /was made to him by friend's. Dur ing his 7 years stay in Tryon Mr. Murtfeldt has endeared him self to many people even among those not of his church. Thev ad mired him for his sincere Christian Jife of service to others and the inspiration he gave to so many. He left Trvon ths morning for his new home in Newburgh, N. Y.. where he will live with his sister, but he plans to spend part of each year in Tryon with fr-'ends who have extended numerous in vitations .... Some people ex pect something from the political pork barrel, but local politicians went on a big bear hunt in the mounta;ns the oth°r day and were not as fortunate as Daniel Boone. -Continued on Baek Page_ County Teachers Banquet At Mill Spring Friday The Polk County school teachers and their wives and husbands will have a banquet Friday night at 7:30 at the Mill Spring school. Dr. Burgess, president of Spartanburg Junior College, will be the guest speaker. , HOSPITAL NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kuykendall are parents of a son born Friday at St. Luke’s Hospital. Other new patients include Richard Placak, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Placak; Mildred Green, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Green, Mill Spring; Mrs. James K. Ward, Mrs. Ashby P. Wickham, Mrs. Willard Young and Mrs. Charles C. West. Patients discharged include Mrs. Elihu Hilton and son of Mill Spring. TURNER ON “Y” TOUR Eugene A. Turner left Monday for Greensboro, N. C., for a week of Y.M.C.A. and civic activities there. Although retired from full time service, Mr. Turner is often called to cities throughout the southeast to speak and to give, his leadership' to “Y” conferences.
