C. Burnett, Mrs. Clyde Reynolds, Mrs. Clyde Tharpe .... ryon Baptist Minister Resigned On Sunday ^Dr. C. E. Scarborough, pastor of the Tryon First Baptist Church, resigned Sunday morning at a busi ness conference of the church mem bers. No statement was made as to Dr. Scarborough’s future plans. A spokesman for the church stated that since Dr. Scarborough came to Tryon as pastor on July 1, 1947, the church had shown unusual growth in all its organiza . tions; and that 179 new members had been added to the church roll. Gifts to missions and welfare work have increased and more than $20,000 given to the church build ing fund. Improvements have been made to the church property in cluding a large parking lot in the rear of the church. Dr. Scarborough is a member of the Rotary Club and is president of the Interracial Ministerial ~ Council. x Polk County Tournament Awards Are Presented The Green Creek girls and the Mill Spring boys won the Sports manship awards donated hy the Tryon Kiwanis Club, and present ed by Elbert H. Arledge, president of the club. The officials of the tournament selected Bob Ramsey of Tryon and Martha Seay of Saluda as the outstanding players in the affair. Also selected by the officials were the following all-tournament teams: Boys: Bob Ramsey, Tryon; Joe Horton, Tryon; Joe Stephenson, Saluda; Jim Whitesides, Green Creek; Mike Glover, Tryon.
