Hum. 79 ... . 200 school chil dren, divided into groups covered the town headed by captains and co-captains who went out on Sat urday, March 17th, to accomplish their part of the Clean Up cam paign. These groups were divided as follows: Godshaw Hill, with June Hamrick, captain and Wiley White, co-captain; Grady Avenue, Lewis Edwards, captain, and Lila Hancock, co-captain; Mercerizing Mill, Charles Covil, captain, Doris . Owens, co-captain; Ice Plant, Jean McCain, captairi, Mike Glover, co captain; School Group, Frank Ford, captain and Chaney Comer, co-captain; Melrose Circle, Sue Hipp, captain, Leo Porter, co-cap tain. As the captain and co-cap tains had rubbish ready to be hauled away, they called Chairman of the Drive Leo Milhaupt, who sent trucks out for it ... . Save your _Continued on Back Paae THURSTON JTES TODAY Miss Edith Moultrie Thurston, a native of Charleston, but for over a quarter of a century a resi dent of Tryon, died here early Sunday morning'. Funeral services were held Monday morning at 11:30 at the Church of the Holy Cross, Episcopal, with Father James Sill officiating. Burial was in Tryon cemetery with McFarland Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were F. P. Bacon-, John G. Landrum Jr., John S. Blackwell, George Holmes, W. W. Creasman and the Rev. Chas. L. McGavern. Miss Thurston was a retired school teacher and at one time had a private school in Tryon. She also taught at the Cedar Spring Insti tute for many years. Even after retirement she con tinued her interest in civic affairs. McCown Reelected-President Local Telephone Company The annual meeting of the share holders of- the Thermal Belt Tele phone Co., was held on Friday, March 16th. Eighty-two percent of the outstanding shares were present in person or represented by proxy. The directors reflected for a three year term were Messrs R. H. Brady, F. P. Bacon and P. L. Barnette. After the shareholders meeting, the organization meeting of the board was held at which the fol lowing officers were elected: M. R. McCown, president. Maurice Puckett, vice-president. G. H.
