The main topic of conversation; for the past six days has been the firing of General MacArthur by President Truman. The General received a hero’s farewell in Japan and an hero’s welcome is being prepared for him in America as his airplane heads for the States . . Wofford College tak*s over Try on Tuesday night as Dean Norton sneaks to the Episcopal Men’s Club at the 6:45 supper meeting and the College Glee Club sings at the school auditorium the same night at 8:15. An interesting fea ture TONIGHT is the technicolor motion picture of Lake Lanier and the Boy Scout Camping activi ties to be shown at the Tryon school auditorium about 8 o’clock. Supt. J. J. Tarlton of Rutherford County saw the picture at the Kiwanis Club meeting and said it was one of the finest of its kind he had ever seen. Public invited. The Scouter supper will be at 6:30 . . . Charlotte Observer reports that Miss Mary Sanders of Tryon has been pledged to the new Kappa Delta sorority, Beta Chi chapter just colonized this year at the University of North Carolina, . . Polk County grocers invited to meet Tuesday at 2 p. m. at Hender sonville court house for OPS clinic. I OFFICERS TO DE ELECTED FOR LITTLE THEATRE James Gibson writes to the people of Tryon as follows: “Everyone interested in the pro gram and future plans of the Tryon Little Theatre is urged to attend a meeting of this group at the Recreation Center at 7:45 p. m. Wednesday, April 18th. The meet ing was originally scheduled for the 17th, but was changed because of the Wofford College Glee Club concert scheduled for that date. “The Little Theatre meeting is for the purpose of electing new officers and drafting plans for the coming season. If you are interest ed in the activities of this group, then you should be at the meet ing. Your admission ticket is your interest.” HOSPITAL NEWS New admissions to St. Luke’s Hospital are as followes: Mrs. P. A. Kenimer, Landrum, S. C.; Mrs. Florence Preston, New Canaan, Conn.; Edward Cole, Landrum R-2; Walter H. Griffiths. Columbus; Mrs. Robert Barber, Try on; Perry McCarol of Tryon. O. M. Thomp son of Tryon and Mrs. Cordelia Thompson, Saluda Rrl, were dis charged from the hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Baylas Rhodes of Saluda, Route 1, are the parents of a son born Saturday at 7:17 a. m. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Hayes of Tryon are parents of twin daughters, born Sunday at 9:50 a. m. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Thompson of Tryon R-l are parents of a son born Monday at 8:30 a. m. The Spartanburg Navy Recruit ing Station announced the enlist ment of Dvaid Knight Ashley of Tryon.
