A barbecue will be served Monday at Harmon Field to all those attending the un veiling of the Marker commemor ating the Treaty made between Governor William Tryon and the Cherokee Indians. Many prominent citizens from all over this area will be present in addition to the Director of Archives and History, and State leaders in education and the Daughters of the American Colonists. The Tryon Kiwanis Club is omitting its meeting at Oak Hall next Tuesday and will eat with the visitors at Harmon Field. GRIFFITHS Walter Henry Griffiths, of Colum bus, retired owner and operator for 40 years of Minnowbrook Inn, Old Forge, N. Y., died in a Tryon hos pital Tuesday morning after a year’s illness. He was a native of Utica, N. Y., but he and his wife had made their home in Columbus for the past six years. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p. m., in Columbus Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Charles L. McGavern officiating. Burial will be in Old Forge, N. Y. Pallbearers will be Ernest Gibbs, John R. Burgess, James W. Gantt, Walter Brazeal, Henry Gibson and Burlin Johnson. Surviving are the widow, the former Miss Beatrice Delmar; and one brother, Daniel Griffiths of Sarasota Springs, N. Y. The Mc Farland Funeral Home of Tryon is in charge. W. A- McFarland to Practice Law In Tryon Office William A. McFarland of Colum bus has entered the law offices of Ryan McCown and J. Lee Laven der as an associate, and will prac tice in the court of this county. Mr. McFarland was graduated from Wajte Forest Law School in January and passed the bar exam ination in March. He is married to the former Miss Dorothy Aber nethy of Hickory and they have one daughter, Rebecca Maude, 4 months-old. They are making their home in Columbus in an apartment on Walker St. Mr. McFarland is a veteran of World War II, a grad uate of Stearns high school, and a brother of tilt cleric of court, Rob ert S.
