I noted your article in Thurs
day’s Bulletin on the parking situa
tion -in Tryon and the possibility
of meters to correct the situation.
I am strongly opposed to meters.
Tryon has always been known as
a “Friendly” town and meters cer
tainly do not enhance such a repu
tation. Nor do meters seem to help
the parking situation in any tow”
I know where they are installed.
Unless their revenue is ibadly need
ed they should be passed up for
the present.
As an alternative I propose the
following:
Let the police, or a committee
appointed by the mayor, interview
each store owner and find the
number of employees he has who
need parking space during the day.
Then a search for parking places
off Trade Street should be made
and sufficient found to satisfy these
needs. Signs should be painted with
the store’s name and put at the
selected parking places and the em
ployees required to park in them.
Enforcement of this policy will, I
believe, remedy our parking situa
tion for some time.
