A' troop train passed through Tryon this morning about 8 o’clock . . Tryon’s baseball team has joined the Wes tern North Carolina Industrial League, taking the place held by Sylva, who had won 2 and lost 13 games. The first game for Tryon since joining the league will be with Enka at Enka Wednesday. The first home game will be with the league leading Berkeley Mills at Harmon Field Saturday after in. Other teams in the league Beacon, Clearwater and Ecus ... A ball of lightning struck the J. C. Hildreth place Monday afternoon, striking a large decidu ous tree and doing other damage. It dug a, zig zag ditch about a foot deep and fourteen inches wide and scattered finely powdered dirt about 15 feet on each side of the ditch, tnen made a tunnel a few feet long, then out again to strike the cemept footingy of the house and jiolishing the cement as if it had been sandpapered. A window pane was broken and a fuse blown was the only damage to the house. Ifr. Hildreth and his son, Jack, who flew from Cleveland, Ohio, happened to be at the hospital^ to -Cortf inued on Back Page—U.~ Jsfr Piedmont Scout Camp Opens The 1951 season of Piedmont Boy Scout camp at Lake Lanier opened last week with a record enrollment for the summer. Some 125 Scout troopsHnumbering more than 2,000 Scouts and leaders are scheduled to attend camp this sum mer and some additional troops will perhaps be added as addition al accommodations are being pro vided. Numerous- improvements and additional equipment has been added to make the camp bigger and better even than in previous years, and an excellent staff will be on hand to welcome and work with the large groups of Scouts and leaders attending the camp this summer. While many on the camp staff this summer will be new in posi tions of leadership, all are Eagle Scouts and experienced campers at Piedmont Camp. Scout Executive R. M. Schiele will serve as camp director; A. C. Warlick Jr., assists ant Scout executive will serve as the assistant camp director and Mrs. Schiele will again serve as dietitian and director of the In dian pageant. Dr. Adrian Grass of Wake Forest Medical School and Gastonia, .will serve as the eamp physician. Eagle Scout Dan Lafar Jr., of Gastonia will serve as swimming instructor apd Eagle Scout David Tino of Gastonia will serve as instructor in rowing. Eigie Scout Fred: D. Hamrick IIT of Rutherfordfcon will serve as direc tor of the came waterfront) and will instruct in life saving. Earle Scout Thad Bostic of Forest City Will serve as instructor in canoeing.
